We are pleased to announce a new addition to our range of theoretical diplomas. The DipMusLCM balances traditional diploma components such as harmony and analysis with new and innovative musicianship elements including comparison of recordings, performance practice considerations and essay writing. The requirements are contained in the Music Literacy syllabus (pdf, 575 kb). Study materials are available as free downloads from this website; these include tuition and exercises for each component of the exam, plus specimen exam papers. The extracts of recordings which are set for the exam can be streamed for on-line listening. |

A revised version of the Drama and Communication syllabus is in preparation, and will be published early in 2010. The syllabus dated 2006 - 2009 will continue to be valid throughout 2010. The revised syllabus (dated 2010 - 2013) will be valid from the Winter session of 2010 onwards. Thus in the Winter session 2010, candidates may enter for either the current or the revised syllabus. |

Assessments are offered at 6 levels, ranging from Grade 1/2 to DipLCM standard, and the requirements are designed to be sufficiently flexible to cater for any type of ensemble. There is no upper limit to the number of performers; the minimum number is two. Exams comprise three assessment areas:

The new handbooks for graded Drum Kit exams are now available. Each handbook covers two grades, and includes everything required for the exam – a wide selection of pieces, plus rudiments, sample sight reading tests and sample aural tests. The syllabus, introduced on page seven of Forte Magazine 2008 - issue 3 (pdf, 660 kb), aims to promote and encourage the skills, techniques and disciplines relating to the use of music in worship. Candidates may enter with any of the following as their principal instrument – pipe organ, electronic organ, electronic keyboard, piano, classical guitar, voice - but may also perform parts of the exam on other instrument(s) if they wish. We are pleased to announce that graded exams in Indian/Sikh Music are now offered. The syllabus has been compiled by the Raj Academy of Asian Music, the world’s largest school for Sikh and traditional Indian music, and covers plucked strings (rabab, sitar and sarod), bowed strings (taus, dilruba, saranda and sarangi) and voice.
